This specimen was lot 71574 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "SENEGAL. 1000 Francs, 1975. NGC MS-69. Struck for the 25th Anniversary of the Eurafrique Program. A pleasing, well struck coin with full luster and frosty fields." Léopold Sédar Senghor (1906-2001) was a Senegalese poet, politician and cultural theorist who served as the first president of Senegal (1960–80). This coin was part of a commemorative program that included silver fifty and 150 francs and gold 250, 500, 1000 and 2500 francs. Senegal, which uses the CFA franc, has never issued coinage for circulation.

Specification: 15.95 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.4667 troy oz AGW.
