Lippe in 1789

This specimen was lot 253 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €6,500 (about US$8,433 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHAUMBURG-LIPPE, GRAFSCHAFT, Philipp Ernst, 1777-1787. Dukat 1777. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Kl. Randfehler, vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Schaumburg-Lippe, Philip Ernest, 1777-87. Extremely rare, minor edge flaws, extremely fine.)"

The tiny county of Schaumburg-Lippe produced few coins in the eighteenth century but managed to issue one-third thalers, two-thirds thalers, thalers and ten thalers (gold) in the 1760's.
