Sayn and Wittgenstein in 1789

This specimen was lot 4572 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €220 (about US$303 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAYN-WITTGENSTEIN-HOHENSTEIN, GRAFSCHAFT Gustav, 1657-1701. 60 Kreuzer (2/3 Taler) 1690, unbestimmte Münzstätte. RR Fassungs- und Glättungsspuren, fast sehr schön. (county of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, Gustav, 1657-1701, sixty kreuzer or two-thirds thaler of 1690, unknown mint. Very rare, tooled, about very fine.)"

The SCWC lists KM-63, -140, -141, -145 for 1690, this one appears to be KM-141. It is listed therein as a 24 mariengroschen, which had the same face value as a sixty kreuzer or two-thirds thaler or gulden. This denomination was struck 1673-91 only. The county of Sayn was a very small state between the archbishopric of Cologne and the duchy of Nassau and this is the most available denomination. This specimen is quite under weight (should be about 19 g), likely deliberate fraud on the part of the count.
