Sayn and Wittgenstein in 1789

This specimen was lot 4571 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €85 (about US$117 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAYN-WITTGENSTEIN-HOHENSTEIN, GRAFSCHAFT Gustav, 1657-1701. 2/3 Taler 1677, unbestimmte Münzstätte. Leicht korrodiert, sehr schön. (county of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, Gustav, 1657-1701, two-thirds thaler of 1677, unknown mint. Lightly corroded, very fine.)"

The SCWC lists KM-63, -88, -90 for 1677, this one appears to be KM-63. This denomination was struck 1673-91 only. The county of Sayn was a very small state between the archbishopric of Cologne and the duchy of Nassau and this is the most available denomination. This specimen is quite under weight (should be about 19 g), likely deliberate fraud on the part of the count.
