Künker sale 293, lot 1269

This specimen was lot 1269 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €240 (about US$324 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich August II. 1836-1854. Taler 1852, F. Ausbeute. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Horn. (kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1836-54, thaler of 1852, for the mines. Fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The SCWC lists the mining thalers of 1841-54 as one type which Davenport splits in two, after the reverse was slightly redesigned in 1850. While priced higher than the regular issue (Dav-878), it is not rare.

Recorded mintage: 47,000 plus 1,105,000 of the regular thaler.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, 0.537 troy oz ASW, lettered edge.

Catalog reference: AKS 102; Kahnt 451; Thun 328, Dav-879, KM 1162.
