This specimen was lot 75052 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1816. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August I. PCGS AU-53. Variety with leaves on edge." This type was struck 1807-17, after Napoleon promoted Frederick Augustus from elector to king, and is common. A mining thaler (Dav-856) also exists.
Recorded mintage: 481,350 including KM 1059.2 (large bust).
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, 39 mm diameter, decorated edge.
