Saxony 1815-IGS thaler Dav-854
This specimen was lot 2961 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAXONY: Friedrich August I, 1806-1827, AR thaler, 1815-IGS, mintmaster initials IGS, light hairlines, AU." Despite having half his territory confiscated at the Congress of Vienna, the king of Saxony managed to find enough metal to strike four different thalers in 1815 (KM 1059.1, KM 1061, KM 1071, KM 1074). This one was struck 1807-17 and is the most common. KM 1059.2 is a large bust variety found only on the 1816. The initials IGS stood for Johann Georg Studer, mintmaster at Dresden 1813-32.
