Sedwick Treasure auction 26, lot 887

This specimen was lot 887 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $505.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxony (German States), mining taler, Friedrich August I, 1811-SGH, NGC MS 64. Brilliantly lustrous, with typical adjustment marks on bust and light surface hairlines on obverse only, tied with one other for finest known in the NGC census." This type was issued 1811-16 to accompany the regular thaler (Dav-854). Frederick Augustus, Napoleon's most faithful ally, was punished at the Congress of Vienna by the loss of half his kingdom.
