Saxony 1782-IEC 10 thaler Fr-2875
This specimen was lot 42312 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $7,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 10 Talers, 1782-IEC. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August III. PCGS MS-62. The finer of just two observed in the PCGS census, and the only such Mint State example, this nearly-Choice specimen glistens with a tremendous degree of radiant brilliance and a very sharp strike, making it undoubtedly one of the finest that one can hope to encounter." This type of 1779-90 shows the elector with a bare head; a uniformed bust type was struck 1778-79 (Fr-2874); both are scarce to rare. The double august d'or was struck to the same standard as the Prussian double friedrichs d'or.
