Künker Auction 425, lot 2338

This specimen was lot 2338 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,947 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich August II., 1733-1763. 2/3 Taler 1760, Dresden. Äußerst selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1733-63, two-thirds thaler of 1760, Dresden mint. Very scarce in this quality, cabinet example, fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1734-62 with considerable variation in the reverse during its production run. The SCWC states the weight should be 19.2 g, which is wrong. By this time, the gulden or two-thirds thaler weighed only half a thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 13.8 g, silver, this specimen 13,39 g.

Catalog reference: KM 879, Dav-831; Kahnt 547.
