Sincona sale 43, lot 2157

This specimen was lot 2157 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Sachsen, 1547 Kurfürstentum, Albertiner, Friedrich August II. 1733-1763 Dicker Doppeltaler 1740. Dresden. Von grösster Seltenheit. Schön-sehr schön. Flaue Stellen. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick August II, 1733-63, double thaler of 1740, Dresden mint. Of the highest rarity, Fine-very fine, Weak areas.)"

This rare type is listed in the SCWC for 1736-37 and 1744 but not for 1740. The purchaser of this lot got a bargain.
