Saxony 1733-FWOF 2 thaler Dav-2663
This specimen was lot 40559 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 2 Taler, 1733-FWOF. Dresden Mint. NGC MS-61. August III as king of Poland (1733-63). Struck to commemorate the death of Fredrich August I. Small collectors mark stamped in left field, from the Count Emeryk Hutton Czapski Collection. One of the finest pedigrees possible for Polish numismatics. Nicely toned, very attractive." While most Saxon thalers of the period 1660-1760 are scarce, double thalers are major rarities. The elector's attempt to conquer and rule Poland as well as Saxony impoverished both countries.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
