Künker sale 406, lot 4377

This specimen was lot 4377 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,674 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August II. 1733-1763. Reichstaler 1734, Dresden. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1733-63, thaler of 1734, Dresden mint. Extremely rare, handsome patina, minor planchet defects on the edge, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was issued every year 1734-56 but it is not common, like most Saxon thalers of the period 1660-1760. Frederick Augustus II was also king of Poland.
