This specimen was lot 72245 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony (Albertine). 1/8 Taler, 1642-CR. Dresden Mint. Johann Georg I. PCGS AU-58. A tremendously captivating and enchanting minor, this barely handled specimen yields an impressive cabinet tone with glints of champagne and luster emanating from the protected areas." This denomination was only sporadically issued in Germany and usually used for commemoratives. This one was struck 1624-56 and is fairly common tho less so than the thaler.
