Saxony 1626-HI 1/4 thaler
This specimen was lot 985 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €200 (about US$276 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE, Johann Georg Ier (1615-1656), AR quart de Taler, 1626 HI, Dresde. D/ B. cuirassé à d., ten. une épée sur l'épaule et un heaume. R/ Armoiries dans un cartouche orné. Très rare. Très Beau. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George I, 1615-56, silver quarter thaler of 1626, Dresden mint. Obverse: armored bust right, holding a sword and a helmet; reverse: arms in an ornate cartouche. Very rare, very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1626-56 and should be more common than it is.
