from the Stack's Bowers 2024 ANA sale, lot 46121

This specimen was lot 46121 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1594-HB. Dresden Mint. Christian II, Johann Georg I & August. NGC EF-45." This type was struck in 1592-1601 for dukes Christian II, Johann Georg and August of Saxony. The SCWC notes that this type was struck by the regent Friedrich Wilhelm von Saxe-Altenburg on behalf of the three young brothers shown on the obverse. Davenport has assigned number 9820 to the 1592-1600 issue and number 7557 to the 1601 issue but they are the same type. The coin is common for the era.
