Saxe-Neu-Weimar 1661 groschen
This specimen was lot 74562 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Neu-Weimar. Groschen, 1661. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, EF Details. A very uncommon example, displaying rich eye appeal and much charm." When Saxe-Middle-Weimar lapsed in 1640, a new Saxe-Weimar was created which lasted until World War One. When Saxe-Eisenach lapsed in 1741, it was added and the new polity was called Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. The legends are in German and are written in Fraktur rather than the usual Roman letters; this may actually be a medal.
