This specimen was lot 1284 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN-ALTENBURG, HERZOGTUM Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1639-1669. Reichstaler 1640, Coburg. R Feine Patina, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, Frederick William II, 1639-69, thaler of 1640, Coburg mint. Scarce, nice toning, very fine.)"

This state was created in 1602 from Saxe-Weimar for Johann II and survived until the death of Frederick William III in 1672, when it was claimed by Saxe-Gotha.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very rare.
