Sincona sale 43, lot 3491

This specimen was lot 3491 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,134 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY, House of Savoy / Sardinia, Carlo Felice, 1821-1831 80 Lire 1828. Turin. Gutes sehr schön. (kingdom of Sardinia, Charles Felix, 1821-31, eighty lire of 1828, Turin mint. Good very fine.)"

This type was struck at Turin (shown here) and Genoa 1823-31. While not rare, it is scarce, particularly in nice condition. Mintmaster P is listed as scarcer for 1828 than mintmaster L.

Recorded mintage: 22,504 (mintmaster L and mintmaster P).

Specification: 25.80 grams, 0.900 fine gold, .746 troy oz AGW, 33 mm diameter, this specimen 25.81 g.
