Sardinia 1740 2-1/2 soldi
This specimen was lot 5046 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $391. The catalog description [2] noted, "Italian States - Sardinia. 2½ Soldo, 1740. Carlo Emanuele III. Armored bust right. Reverse: Crowned arms divide FE-RT. NGC graded MS-63." This type was struck 1732-40 and is listed cheaply in the SCWC. It is likely quite scarce, especially in this condition. The SCWC lists a bewildering variety of small denominations for this north Italian state, including two denari, half soldo. one soldo, 2½ soldi, 2.6 soldi, five soldi, 7.6 soldi, ten soldi, fifteen soldi, twenty soldi, eighth scudo, quarter scudo and half scudo. The one scudo is the crown size coin.
