This specimen was lot 2447 in Goldberg sale 117 (Los Angeles, September 2020), where it sold for $372. The catalog description[1] noted, "San Marino. 2 Scudi, 1997-R. Michelangelo's David. One year type. Choice Brilliant Proof." San Marino is in the Italian Apennines and is a protectorate of Italy but remains independent. It used the obsolete scudo as the denomination for its gold commemoratives. This two scudi was struck to the same module as the obsolete Italian gold twenty lira. This type was struck in Rome. San Marino now uses the euro.
