This specimen was lot 2414 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $624. The catalog description[1] noted, "San Marino. 5 Scudi, 1996. Crowned crest within wreath. Reverse: The Pieta, Mary receives Jesus' body. Choice Brilliant Proof." San Marino is in the Italian Apennines and is a protectorate of Italy but remains independent. It used the obsolete scudo as the denomination for its gold commemoratives. The five scudi was 15 g in 1976, then lowered to 10 g in 1983, and then raised to 16.95 g in 1986. This type was struck in Rome. San Marino now uses the euro.
