Sincona sale 46, lot 855

This specimen was lot 855 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Salzburg, Erzbistum, Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803. 1/4 Dukat 1777. Fast FDC. (Germany, archbishopric of Salzburg, Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803, quarter ducat of 1777. About uncirculated.)"

This type of 1776-77 and 1782 is fairly available, giving ordinary collectors the chance to appreciate its exquisite engraving. The Archbishop is most remembered as the first patron of Mozart but grew irritable when Mozart demanded better status than a mere employee.
