Salzburg 1744-FMK thaler Dav-1242
This specimen was lot 4658 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €420 (about US$551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, SALZBURG, Leopold Anton Eleutherius von Firmian, 1727-1744. Reichstaler 1744. RR Hübsche Patina, sehr schön/vorzüglich. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Leopold Anton Eleutherius von Firmian, 1727-44, thaler of 1744. Very rare, handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
While most Salzburg thalers are common, this one of 1738-44 is scarce. The archbishop is remembered in history for expelling twenty thousand Protestants from his domain in 1731, to the benefit of the king of Prussia who settled them in East Prussia.
