Salzburg 1713 ducat Fr-844
This specimen was lot 6034 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,680 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SALZBURG, ERZBISTUM, Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727. Dukat 1713. GOLD. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Kricheldorf IX, Stuttgart 1961, Nr. 107. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Francis Anton of Harrach, 1709-27, ducat of 1713. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1709-26 and is slightly more available than the ducat with the archbishop's bust (Fr-842). In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.
