The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. This type was struck 1654-68 and is common. Except for the change of ruler, it is virtually identical to the prior type (Dav-3504) issued 1623-53. The superseding type (Dav-3508) was issued 1668-86.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: silver, this specimen 28,66 g.
