This specimen was lot 53663 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Salzburg. Taler, 1625. Salzburg Mint. Paris von Lodron. PCGS AU-58." The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. This type was struck 1623-53 and is one of the commonest thalers of the seventeenth century.
