This specimen was lot 2812 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,910 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Paris von Lodron, 1619-1653. Doppelte Reichstalerklippe 1624. Mit Arabesken auf der Rückseite. RR Feine Patina, kl. Fleck im Feld der Rückseite, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Paris von Lodron, 1619-53, klippe double thaler of 1624, with arabesques on the reverse. Very rare, small stain on the reverse, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck in round (KM 138, Dav-3503A) format in 1629 only and in klippe format (shown here) in 1624-25, 1629-32 and 1636. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 85.45 g (weight of a triple taler).
