Salzburg 1562 2 ducat Fr-617
This specimen was lot 1982 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,238 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Salzburg, Erzbistum, Johann Jakob Khüen von Belasi, 1560-1586. 2 Dukaten 1562. Gutes sehr schön. (Germany, archbishopric of Salzburg, John Jacob Khüen von Belasi, 1560-1586, double ducat of 1562. Good very fine.)"
The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. Altho expensive, this is the most common gold coin of this archbishop, who also issued twenty ducats (Fr-620) down to single ducats (Fr-616, -619, -632, -635, -637).
