Russia H3064-33753r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33753 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russian Federation gold Proof 50 Roubles 1993-(L) PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC, Leningrad mint. A truly gorgeous specimen with all the eye-appeal of a PR70 piece, save for three extremely light, small areas on the obverse fields that appear to be evaporation residue. Struck to celebrate the Russian Federation's first gold medal in the London Olympics." This NCLT honoring Olympic figure skating was issued by the post-Communist regime. The fall of Communism did not alleviate the desperate shortage of foreign exchange.

Recorded mintage: 7,500 proofs.

Specification: 8.64 g, 0.900 fine gold, AGW 0.2500 oz.

Catalog reference: KM-Y355, Fr-222.
