This specimen was lot 33929 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $12,000. The lot description[1] noted, "Russia: Nicholas II 5 Kopecks 1912-CПБ PR65 Brown NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Survivors from this date at this level of preservation are scant, coming to market only a handful of times in the last 20 years, this example last appearing at the iconic Hesselgesser sale in 2001. To see this majestic Proof issue so mint fresh and glossy is almost otherworldly, with no higher graded examples at either service, and considering the impressive pedigree, we would expect no different. Ex. Hesselgesser Collection (Goldberg's Auction 8, February 2001, Lot 3827)." This copper five kopeks was produced at the St. Petersburg mint 1867-71, 1876-81, 1911-12 and was the final type of copper five kopeks until 1916 (KM Y12.3). St. Petersburg also issued silver five kopeks 1810-1915.

Recorded mintage: 2,700,000 plus proofs; a very scarce date.

Specification: 16.4 g, copper, 32.6 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-Y12.2, Bit-211.
