This specimen was lot 31593 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander III 25 Kopecks 1888-AГ MS62 NGC, St. Petersburg mint. Obv. Head of Alexander III right. Rev. Crowned double-headed eagle, with date and value below. Superb original silver-gray and blue toning over prooflike surfaces. The strike is bold and only light marks are noted. A conditionally rare issue in Mint State, with a mintage of only 4,007 pieces. None have been certified finer than MS62 by either NGC, or PCGS." This type is listed for 1886-94. All dates are scarce to rare, especially compared to the large numbers of twenty kopeks issued in the same period. Alexander III ruled 1881-94.
