Sincona sale 65, lot 243

This specimen was lot 243 in Sincona sale 65 (Zürich, October 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Polushka 1855, Warsaw Mint, BM. Rare, especially in this condition. PCGS MS65 RD. (Полушка 1855, Варшавский МД, ВM. Биткин 495 (R). Редкая, особенно в такой степени сохранности. В слабе PCGS MS65 RD.)" This specimen was offered again as lot 1199 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,256 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"RUSSLAND. Alexander II. 1855-1881. Polushka 1855, Warschau, BM. Bitkin 495 (R). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. PCGS MS65 RD. (empire of Russia, Alexander II, 1853-81, polushka of 1855, Warsaw mint. Rare in this condition, gem uncirculated.)"

This type was struck at Warsaw 1855 and 1860. Similar polushkas were minted at Ekaterinburg.

Recorded mintage: 40,000.
