Sincona sale 84, lot 148

This specimen was lot 148 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 20 Kopecks 1783, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB. 1 rouble according to Petrov. Very fine-extremely fine. Attractively toned."

This type was issued from St. Petersburg (shown here) and Moscow 1764-96, after which the denomination was suspended for many years. This subtype was struck 1783-93.

Recorded mintage: 389,000.

Specification: 4.77 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 5.31 g.
