from Künker sale 352, lot 1409

This specimen was lot 1409 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,505 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH, Katharina II. 1762-1796. 5 Rubel 1780, St. Petersburg. GOLD. R Fast sehr schön. (empire of Russia, Catherine II, 1762-96, five rubles of 1780, St. Petersburg mint. Scarce, about very fine.)"

This five rubles, tho less rare than those of Elizabeth, is still plenty expensive. It is listed for 1778-82.

Recorded mintage: 26,000.

Specification: 6.54 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 6.47 g.
