Russia 1776-SP 5 rubles Fr-130a
This specimen was lot 20499 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $16,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Rubles, 1776-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Catherine II (the Great). PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. From a very pivotal and influential year in America, this very lightly handled specimen presents little in the way of handling all while retaining a great deal of brilliance and luster shimmering throughout. Undoubtedly, a coin which should generate a good deal of enthusiasm and the finest seen at PCGS for the date. From the Naples Bay Collection." This five rubles, tho less rare than those of Elizabeth, is still plenty expensive. It is listed for 1766-77.
