Künker sale 354, lot 6087

The first specimen was lot 7137 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $540.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1751-MMA. Elizabeth (1741-61). NGC AU-53. A wholesome example. Light attractive toning." The second specimen was lot 6087 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,392 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH, Elisabeth, 1741-1761. Rubel 1751, Moskau, Roter Münzhof. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich +. (empire of Russia, Elizabeth, 1741-61, ruble of 1751, Moscow mint, Red Mint. Fine toning, extremely fine or better.)"

This type was struck 1743-51 and is rather expensive in nice condition. Later in 1751, assayers' initials were added to the coin and the revised type (KM C19b.5) was struck until 1757 at St. Petersburg and Moscow (shown here).

Recorded mintage: 1,083,000.

Specification: 25.85 g, .802 fine silver, the second specimen 25.74 g.
