Sincona Auction 103, lot 355

This specimen was lot 355 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 170 CHF (about US$259 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Rostock, Stadt. Doppelschilling 1607, Rostock. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, city of Rostock, double schilling of 1607, Rostock mint. About Uncirculated.)"

The city of Rostock was under the sovereignty of the dukes of Mecklenburg but claimed the mint right as a member of the Hanseatic League. This type was struck 1605-08, most with three digit dates. It was worth one-twelfth of a thaler.
