This specimen was lot 32202 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Romania: Carol I 2 Lei 1901 AU55 NGC. The obvious key of this short-lived series, with a scant 12,000 pieces minted. Though lightly circulated, this is a pleasing example with light grey toning beginning to form. It is worth noting that we sold an example of this date graded AU Details (Surface Hairlines) in 2016 for $7,050." This type of 1894 and 1900-01 was accompanied by one (KM 26), two (KM 27), five, ten, twenty and fifty bani (KM 23) and one leu (KM 24). This is the scarcest denomination of the group.
