This specimen was lot 30493 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carol I 50 Bani 1901 MS64 NGC. A delightful one-year type featuring the bust of Carol I with stunning pastel iridescence that meanders the surfaces and illuminates the fully-rendered design elements of this small, but highly pleasing specimen. Our research indicates that a limited number of examples of this type have been offered in the past decade, and those that were didn't come close to equalling this near-gem." This type was struck in Hamburg 1894 and 1900-01 to the standard of a French silver fifty centimes. It is fairly common. Prince Carol was promoted to king in 1881.
