This specimen was lot 22497 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carol I 5 Lei 1901-B, MS63 NGC, a highly attractive coin with subtle gray and gold patina and full mint luster. Rarely found in this pleasing quality; an example with exceptional eye appeal." This type was struck in limited numbers 1881, 1883 and 1901. It is scarce to rare in nice condition.
Recorded mintage: 82,460 plus proofs.
Specification: 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, 38 mm diameter.
