This type was struck 1964 at Pretoria, South Africa, for the white supremacist regime of Rhodesia. As South Africa had already converted to decimal coinage, this issue was dual denominated sixpence/five cents. In 1965, the regime declared independence, an act not recognized by Great Britain until the establishment of Zimbabwe in 1980.
Recorded mintage: 13,500,000 plus 2,060 proofs.
