Reuss-Schleiz 1763-ICE 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 1821 in Jean Elsen sale 147 (Brussels, June 2021), where it sold for €110 (about US$161 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, REUSS-SCHLEIZ, Heinrich XII (1744-1784), AR 1/6 Reichstaler, 1763, Saalfeld. D/ Ecu orné, sous deux heaumes. R/ Valeur dans le champ. Très Beau. (Germany, principality of Reuss-Schleiz, Henry XII, 1744-84, silver one-sixth reichsthaler of 1763, Saalfeld mint. Obverse: ornate arms under two helms; reverse: value in the field. Very Fine.)"
This minor honors the peace of Hubertusburg, which ended the Seven Years War. It is the only time this state issued this denomination, which was accompanied by 1/24 thaler (KM 35, 36), 1/12 thaler (KM 3), 1/3 thaler (KM 39), 2/3 thaler (KM 40), thaler (KM 41) and ducat (KM 42). Altho the value is 1/6 thaler, the marked weight is "LXXX·EINE MARCK FEIN", that is to say, one eighth of a thaler.
