WAG Online sale 145, lot 996

This specimen was lot 996 in WAG online sale 145 (December 2023), where it sold for 32 euro. The catalog description noted, "Regensburg-Stadt. 10 Kreuzer 1781. Beckenbauer 7504. Sehr schön - vorzüglich." With the introduction of the convention thaler in the mid eighteenth century, one mark was ten thalers and one thaler was 120 kreuzer. This type was struck 1781 only but is fairly common in circulated condition. Despite the tiny reported mintage, the SCWC reports four major varieties for 1781: KM 439 (eagle without sword or orb), KM 440 (eagle holds sword and orb, shown here), KM 441 (date moved to above pedestal), KM 442 (eagle without sword or orb). We aren't sure that KM 439 and KM 442 exist for this date as we find no examples in the auction records.

Recorded mintage: 3,600.

Specification: 3.86 g, silver, 27 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 440.
