Regensburg 1649-VG ducat Fr-2469a
This specimen was lot 20614 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $11,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Regensburg. Freie Reichsstadt. Ducat, 1649-VG. NGC MS-62. Peace of Westphalia. Dove flies over Noah's ark, rainbow above, identified with Holy Spirit and His Gifts in the legend; Reverse: Inscription in wreath hails Peace Celebration in Regensburg, 16 October. A beautiful example of this highly illustrative issue with rich orange gold tone over dazzling surfaces. Highly popular as a type." The Peace of Westphalia, which finally ended the Thirty Years War, was a event well worth celebrating with a gold coin.
