Künker sale 293, lot 404

This specimen was lot 404 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €440 (about US$593 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 1840-1861. Taler 1849, A. Ausbeute. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, mining thaler of 1849. Proof example, about uncirculated.)"

This mining thaler of 1847-52 is only slightly more expensive than the regular issue (Dav-769) which had 17 times the mintage.

Recorded mintage: 50,000.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver.
