Prussia 1795 thaler Dav-2600
This specimen was lot 3942 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €360 (about US$501 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. Konv.-Taler 1795, Berlin. Handelsmünze. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, convention thaler of 1795, Berlin mint, trade coin. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1794-95 for use as a trade coin as the reichs thaler did not circulate outside of Prussia. It does not seem to have been a success and the experiment was not repeated.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 27,96 g.
