Port India 1952 tanga rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is one of a two year type struck in Lisbon for the Portuguese colonies in India. Once extensive, Portuguese dominions had dwindled by the 1800's to the enclaves of Goa, Diu and Damao. Issues up to 1952 were based on the rupee (1 rupia = 16 tanga) and struck at the British controlled mints of Bombay and Calcutta. The last issues (1958-61) were based on the escudo.

Recorded mintage: 9,600,000.

Specification: 4 g, bronze, 20 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM 28, Gomes-03.01.
