This specimen was lot 31159 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "Portugal: Republic gold Proof "Solor & Timor Islands" 200 Escudos 1995-INCM PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC. This issue was struck to commemorate the Portuguese discovery of the islands Solor and Timor in 1515. A handsome piece with stark contrasts. From the Paramount Collection." This is one of many NCLT's issued to celebrate the glories of Portugal's past. It was issued in copper-nickel, silver and gold.

Recorded mintage: 750,000 in copper-nickel, 20,000 in silver and 4,000 in gold.

Specification: KM 683: copper-nickel, 36 mm diameter; KM 683a: 26.50 g, 0.925 fine silver; KM 683b: 27.20 g, 0.916 fine gold, AGW 0.8016 oz.
