Steve Album sale 51, lot 3249

This specimen was lot 3249 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL: Republic, AR 2½ escudos, 1932, a fantastic example, PCGS graded MS66." This type was struck 1932-33, 1937, 1940-48 and 1951; many dates are common but this one is somewhat scarce. Five and ten escudos also exist with this design. When the issue of 2½ escudos resumed in 1963, it was a copper-nickel coin.

Recorded mintage: 2,592,000, a better date.

Specifications: 3.5 g, 0.650 fine silver, 20.5 mm diameter.
